Sake

In the real world

DSCF0035

Friday, December 8th was a very special day. For the first time, after the cyber tasting and exchanging email messages, three bloggers, Melinda who lives in Tokyo, Valerie from St. Paul and I enjoyed our first tasting at Buri in Ebisu, along with friends and family mentioned in their blogs. Hopefully, we can do this again either in Tokyo or somewhere in the US with Tim.

So, what do three bloggers eat and drink at Buri? We tasted over 9 kinds of cupsake along with tofu pickled in miso (my favorite!), kushi, sashimi, and lots more food. It is a great place to get together with people–great food, a good selection of sake and other beverages, and a casual atmosphere where people can come and go.

It’s one thing to communicate with sake enthusiasts like Melinda and Valerie online, but it really makes it so special to be able to see them live and talk about sake, in the real world.

Here’s to our next kanpai!

  1. Shoot! I’ve been meaning to leave a comment for a long time, but this has been such a hectic month. Of course, it was grrrrrrreat meeting you in the flesh, as it were, at Buri and even more fun doing some serious drinking with you on the 17th! So I wanted to say thanks again for organizing a truly stimulating and controversial tasting.

Merry Xmas and Happy New Year to you and Dorian, I mean, Ted! I’m looking forward to our first kanpai in 2007.

  2. Merry Xmas, Melinda! I have to say, I survived the 17th, but not too much to remember! I hope there’s going to be a next one, and hope you and JP can come.

A Happy New Year and Happy Sake Drinking!
