Since October 1st is Nihonshu no Hi or Sake Day, I stopped at the Sake Plaza in Shinbashi, run by the Japan Sake Brewers Association today to see if there’s anything happening tomorrow. Yes, the Sake Brewer’s Association will be hosting two free taru-zake tastings at noon and at 5:00 pm on October 1st.
Although I am going to miss the free sake tomorrow, I picked up something I have always wanted–a big map of Japan listing all sake breweries. This map will go up on the wall and any kura I tried is going to be pinned and color-coded according to the year I tasted their sake. The total number of breweries on the map should be around 1400, considering it was printed in 2001. So, my resolution on the Sake Day is going to be “to have at least a glass of sake from all breweries on the map”.

Et-chan, Happy Nihonshu no Hi 2009!
How are you doing on this resolution?
I need one of these maps!
Hope to see you in 2010!
