Located next to Roppongi Hills, between Iranian Restaurant Aladdin and AM/PM, Tokyo Halal Foods offers a wide range of foods. The shop has been at this location for two years, but I just recently found out about it. After checking their web store, which gave me some idea what I could get, I stopped by the shop one afternoon.

They mostly cater to restaurants in the area, which is why you find big 1kg spice bags. I thought most of my personal cooking needs of Indian, Asian, Middle Eastern ingredients would be covered by this store. For this visit, I was looking for dried lemons, but also found asafoetida which I couldn’t find anywhere else in Japan. I was curious what asafoetida really smells like, and some recipes called for it, so I have been looking for this around Ueno and Ikebukuro with no luck. Also, they have pomegranate syrup, which I found at National Azabu some time ago, but not all the time. So, I am just rambling here just to say they have a lot of stuff.

I hope these pictures give you some idea what the store is like in addition to their list on the web.

  1. It’s not there anymore. It is now an Indian grocery store, Spice World.
