Sake of the week #006: Fuchu Homare Nama Nigori

Summer sake

This is one of the bottles we picked up in February when we visited Yamauchi-san at Fuchu Homare in Ibaraki. This Fuchu Homare honjozo nama nigori was pressed and bottled in February and has been waiting patiently in the fridge.

Yesterday was such a beautiful early summer evening when we opened this bottle for dinner to enjoy with a leafy salad and aji mixed with light citrus vinaigrette. Then, it became quite controversial….

Te-chan called it “summer BBQ sake.”

I agreed, but somehow wanted to make it lighter to go with the weather. So, I added a bit of grapefruit juice and soda water to this already bubbly nigori. I gave this sake cocktail a big thumbs-up as my summer pick, but Te-chan gave it a definite thumbs-down.

Either way, we agreed on one thing: this bottle goes so well with summery food.

  1. Thank you for your frequent comments to my blog.
Ahahaha, I understand ladies like some sakes that men do not like very much. Let’s be happy by drinking sake in our own favorive ways!

  2. Ichibay-san,
That’s the fun about sake, right? There’s no right or wrong way. Kanpai!
