Sake of the week #022: Kuroushi Junmai Umeshu

Kuroushi’s label is always easy to spot with its two simple letters “black” and “cow” written in ink. As the label design suggests, they strike me as majime or really serious toward their sake craftsmanship.

When I saw this label yesterday at a sake and potluck with friends, it really cracked me up! The old lady on the label cannot stop crying because the umeshu made with Kuroushi Junmai is so good! Every detail is so “not” Kuroushi. And, I am happy to report the umeshu was good, but instead of crying, it made everyone smile!

  1. What an awesome label. I so terribly wish the sake market here in the States was as diverse as it is in Japan. It’s rare to see a gem such as this show up here.

  2. Isn’t it? I am sure some of them will make it to the US very soon with the rate sake is catching up there! It’s just so cool.

  3. Now come to think of it, I think someone said this label is only for local market. So, not even for Tokyo, maybe.
