No SotW this time-Keep your eye out for One Koku

Although we’ve had some very good nihonshu this past week, we won’t have a sake of the week this time. It might distract from the impending culmination of the 1 Koku goal over at Jumanai Djimi Django. It started with Hachitsuru Junmai [1 Koku – 99] on 13 January, 2009 and a challenge to drink 1 koku, “100 isshobin, only isshobin”. That’s 1,800 180 liters of sake, one isshobin at a time. No occasional glasses, no 720ml bottles … 1.8L isshobin only.

The penultimate isshobin was Kissui Miyanoyuki Junmai on the 6th of September. Vinod has been busy travelling and getting more isshobin has been a challenge, but we’re sure he’s going to cross over soon.

Gambatte, Jumanai Djimi Django!

  2. Had a moment of panic when I read 1800 liters! I have to admit, securing the last, unique, isshobin, has been a real challenge, but I am hopeful of pinning it down this week.

And then we’ll think about the 10 Koku Challenge!

  3. Sorry, Vinod. Didn’t mean to shock you or put you on the liver transplant list. Since corrected to 180. Hey, I’m an English teacher. Math, or in this case basic arithmatic isn’t my thing. But mainly, I’d been out at Akaoni all evening before I wrote that.

Now that you mention it, after 1 Koku, you should keep rolling with a 10 Koku challenge.
